Overview:
A 10-day family holiday brings you many opportunities to discover the magical temples of Angkor with a thrilling horse ride throughout the small villages close to the temple complex. You’ll also have a chance to explore the ecological wonder of the Tonle Sap Lake by boat to experience its unique floating villages as well as the local daily life. Your expedition will continue with a visit to the frenetic capital of Phnom Penh where you are able to cycle around to enjoy its beauty with a day trip out of the city for traditional silk weaving techniques and so much more. Finish your Cambodia tour with a beach break at a luxury coastal resort of Kep.
Detailed itinerary:
Day 1: Siem Reap arrival (D, G)
On arrival, you will be met and transferred to the hotel. You’ll have time to relax after your journey before having dinner and enjoying an Apsara dance performance. You’ll spend the night in Siem Reap.
Day 2: Siem Reap Temples (B, L, G)
After breakfast, your guide will arrive to take you to the temple complex. From there, you’ll begin your tour with a 15 minute balloon ride to view the vast Angkor Complex and afterwards visit Angkor Wat temple. Continue to the atmospheric jungle temple of Ta Prohm, a truly remarkable sight. In the afternoon, return to your hotel to wind down, escape the midday heat and relax. You’ll spend your night in Siem Reap.
Day 3: Siem Reap Other Sites & Horse Riding (B, L, G)
This morning you will visit Angkor Thom, Bayon, Baphoun, the Elephant Terrace and the Terrace of the Leper King. These magnificent temples and complexes offer a startling insight into the beauty and power of the Angkorian era. After lunch, you’ll continue your day with a horse ride through the small villages that surround the temple complex.
Day 4: Siem Reap/ Tonle Sap Lake (B, L, G)
After Breakfast and a transfer by Tuk Tuk to Tonle Sap lake – the largest in South East Asia. From there, you’ll board a boat trip to the floating villages before a walking tour of the fascinating pagodas and settlements that surround the lake. Head back to the town for lunch and spend the afternoon at leisure. At 6pm you’ll have a guide to explore the vibrant night market – great for shopaholics. Your overnight accommodation will be in Siem Reap.
Day 5: Siem Reap /Phnom Kulen walking (5 to 6 hours walk)
This morning, your route will take you by road to the National Park of Phnom Kulen, an important pilgrimage site and historically viewed as the most sacred mountain in Cambodia. You’ll drive to the top of the mountain where you’ll visit a waterfall and the monastery, and its carved reclining Buddha.
Later, you’ll be driven to the village of Phum Themei, where your journey will continue on foot, for a trek of about 3 km to visit Preah Kral pagoda. A further two hour trek will bring you to the entrance of Prasat Rong Chen, the first mountain-temple built in the Angkor region. Amid lush vegetation, you will see several life-size animals carved into the stone, one of the highlights of which is a 4m high elephant. After picnic lunch, you’ll return to Phum Themei where your vehichle will be waiting to take you back to Siem Reap.
Day 6: Siem Reap/Phnom Penh (B, G)
After breakfast, take the morning flight to Phnom Penh. Upon arrival you will be met by your guide and transferred to your hotel. In the afternoon, take a cycle rickshaw to the National Museum and Royal Palace before an hour long boat trip on the Mekong River to view sunset. You’ll spend your night in Phnom Penh.
Day 7: Phnom Penh /Cycle Silk Island (B, L, G)
After breakfast, our guide and driver will arrive to take you to the Mekong riverbank, boarding a boat to visit the nearby island of Koh Dath. The island is renowned for its handicraft villages, and its skilled artisans, including silk weavers, potters and fine carvers, are always happy to demonstrate their mastery of these traditional crafts. The island also has a white-sand beach, from which a cooling river swim can be enjoyed. Highly popular with locals at the weekend, the beach is agreeably deserted on weekdays. After a picnic lunch you’ll return to Phnom Penh, arriving in the late afternoon. Your overnight accommodation will be in Phnom Penh.
Day 8: Phnom Penh/Kep for a Beach relaxation (B, DP)
After breakfast, begin the 4 hour drive from Phnom Penh to Kep by private vehicle. After check in, the rest of day is free to relax or explore the lush rugged coastline and charming town.
The sleepy seaside town of Kep is a real hidden gem. Once the premier beach destination for the French elite, Kep is still dotted with art deco architecture and retains a very French feel.
Day 9: Kep at leisure (B)
Free day at leisure to spend as you wish.
Day 10: Kep/ Phnom Penh (B, DP)
After breakfast, drive from Kep directly to Phnom Penh International Airport for your departure flight.
