Overview:
A 5-day comprehensive culture journey brings you the best cultural aspects Luang Prabang has to offer. It takes you to some of the Asia’s finest temples, experiencing their wonderful architecture, learning the country’s religion and a Baci Ceremony in a local village is a good way to understand the Laotian spiritual life. You are able to take part in a weaving class with a brief introduction to the natural dyes and traditional weaving technique. Then a cooking class is a great opportunity for you to learn about Laotian ways of cooking and enjoy their traditional cuisines. If you are looking for an unforgettable interactive experience in Luang Prabang, then this is the tour for you.
Detailed itinerary:
Day 1: Luang Prabang arrival (G)
Upon arrival, you will be met and transferred to your hotel. You’ll have time to relax after your journey. In the evening you’ll have tickets for the unique Royal Ballet Performance set in the Royal Palace.
Day 2: Luang Prabang City tour/ Baci Ceremony (B, L, G)
After breakfast, you’ll have a guided tour to visit the Royal Palace Museum which hosts a range of interesting artifacts. You’ll call in at some of the city’s most beautiful temples of the magnificent Wat Xiengthong, with its roofs sweeping low to the ground, representing the classical Luang Prabang style, as well as Wat Mai and Wat Sene, the oldest temple in Luang Prabang.
In the afternoon you’ll visit Yensabai where you will see some Lao traditional stencils made with Saa paper. Your next stop is the excellent Arts and Ethnology Centre which gives you a further insight into the ethnic mix and culture of Laos. Later, you’ll climb up the Mount of Phousi for a spectacular sunset and a panoramic view over Luang Prabang and the Mekong River.
In the evening, you’ll be transferred to a local village to take part in a traditional Baci Ceremony, involving the tying of strings to ones wrists aims to keep bad spirits away and bring good lucks. You’ll spend your night in Luang Prabang.
Day 3: Luang Prabang/ Ock Pop Tok/Silkworms and Natural dyes (B, G)
You’ll have a free morning at leisure to explore Luang Prabang on your own pace. In the afternoon you will be transferred to Ock Pop Tok weaving centre for a unique Silkworm and Natural Dyes Class. First there is an explanation about the worms’ lives and a bizarre list of facts regarding sericulture. You are invited to prepare mulberry leaves and feed the worms. After a brief introduction to the natural dyes, you will dye scarves in your chosen colours. By late afternoon there is a chance to meet the weavers and get an introduction to the weaving technique; there will also be a chance to try your hand at weaving and spinning. The day finishes with a cocktail and canapés overlooking the sunset on the Mekong River. You’ll spend your night in Luang Prabang.
Day 4: Luang Prabang /Cooking Class at Roots and Leaves (B, L)
Your morning will start with a visit to a local market, accompanied by the head chef who will show you the different types of Lao ingredients. Later you are ready to start your cooking class. Lunch is your own efforts! The afternoon is at your own leisure.
Day 5: Luang Prabang Departure (B, DP)
Your day will be your own until your car and driver arrives to take you to the airport for your departure flight.
