Vietnam Holiday for Children 12 Days

Overview:

 

This 12-day Vietnam vacation is based in the south of the country and includes activities designed to attract the interest of both children and adults. Vietnam is very much a ‘child friendly’ country with plenty to see and do. With an experienced guide who can interpret Vietnam’s rich culture at on different levels so that each member of your family will be able to interact with local people and experience their daily life.

The activities on your itinerary will be carefully tailored covering the underground tunnels of Cu Chi used by the Viet Cong during the war, exploring the bizarre features of Dalat with an elephant ride, and a boat trip in Nha Trang Bay complete with snorkelling, entertainment and even a floating bar. Another ‘thrilling’ experience is riding on the back of a motorbike. For older and more venturesome youngsters (and parents?), you might consider a firing range where you can shoot an AK 47 and other weapons near the Cu Chi Tunnels, or venturing on to the back of an ostrich in the Mekong Delta.

Detailed itinerary:

Day 1: Ho Chi Minh City arrival (G)

Arriving at Tan Son Nhat airport in Ho Chi Minh City, you’ll be met and driven to your hotel. You’ll have time to relax after your journey before a performance of traditional Water Puppetry (an art form unique to northern Vietnam, and a good, light-hearted introduction to its rural culture). You’ll spend the night in Ho Chi Minh City.

Day 2: Ho Chi Minh City/Cu Chi Tunnels/Ho Chi Minh City (B, L, G)

A morning drive will take you to visit the famous Cu Chi tunnels, a Byzantine maze of underground passages, chambers, rooms and booby traps. You’ll return to Ho Chi Minh City for a visit the huge Ben Thanh market, one of the liveliest areas of Ho Chi Minh City followed by a lunch. You’ll then call in at the Jade Emperor Temple - one of the best Taoist temples in Vietnam, with superb effigies, remarkable carved panels of the descent to Hell and somewhat incongruous terrapin and tortoise sanctuaries. In the evening, you’ll ride in a cyclo to discover the city. Your overnight accommodation will be in Ho Chi Minh City.

Day 3: Ho Chi Minh City/Vinh Long/Can Tho (B, L, G)

After escaping from Ho Chi Minh City’s urban sprawl, you’ll travel to Vinh Long where a Mekong River cruise will take you to visit the fruit orchards, a traditional family-run brick kiln, and some long established cottage industries. You’ll drive further into the Mekong Delta to Can Tho. Upon arrival you’ll call in at the Munir Ansay – an ancient Khmer style pagoda, renowned for its unique structural decorations. You’ll then drive to your hotel in Can Tho where you’ll spend the night.

Free option: You might consider joining Ostrich riding and Crocodile ‘fishing’ at Vinh Sang farm at An Binh island. This one is a very popular attraction for Vietnamese holidaymakers.

Day 4: Can Tho/Ho Chi Minh City (B, L, G)

After breakfast and a boat cruise you’ll arrive at Cai Rang floating market on the Mekong Delta. Both the journey and the market provide insights into the rural Mekong Delta lifestyle. On your return to Ho Chi Minh City, you’ll call in at the beautiful and ancient Vinh Trang pagoda, 3 km from My Tho centre. You’ll arrive in Ho Chi Minh City in the late afternoon with time to freshen up in the hotel.

Day 5: Ho Chi Minh City/Dalat (B, D, G)

In the afternoon, you’ll fly to Dalat City. On arrival, you’ll be met and driven to the city centre for your check-in. You’ll then visit Dalat market, followed by dinner. You’ll stay in Dalat.

Day 6: Dalat (B, L, G)

In the morning, a cable car will sway you downhill to the Truc Lam Pagoda. It’s quite plain, but is surrounded by an attractive flower garden. There are good views of the lake which lies below and can be reached by steps, and the thick forests on the far side. You’ll then cruise across the Tuyen Lam Lake for an hour’s elephant ride on the island in the middle of the lake. You’ll return to your hotel, the rest of the day will be your own. You’ll spend the night in Dalat.

Day 7: Dalat (B, L, G)

You’ll have the whole day to explore Dalat city on the back of a motorbike. Your guide will take you to visit Emperor Bao Dai’s Summer Palace, the Crazy House, and the Lam Ty Ni Pagoda. You’ll spend the night in Dalat.

Day 8: Dalat/Nha Trang (B, DP)

In the morning, your car and driver will take you to your hotel in Nha Trang, which will overlook the Bay. The remainder of the day will be free. You’ll spend the night in Nha Trang.

Day 9: Nha Trang Island Cruise (B, L, G)

After breakfast, a car will arrive to take you to board a boat for a whole-day cruise to some of the small islands in the bay. You’ll anchor off Mun Island with one hour stop for leisurely snorkelling, swimming and sunbathing. The snorkelling equipment is provided for viewing the marine wildlife and plentiful coral reefs. You’ll then head to Mot Island where you will enjoy excellent fresh cuisine for lunch. After lunch, enjoy the floating bar with complimentary red wine and fruits while being entertained by the hilarious guides with their funny antics (it’s party time!). You’ll continue the fun-filled day stopping at Tam Island. Enjoy some free time with exhilarating water sports including Jet Ski, catamaran, wave killer, canoe (optional) or some leisurely relaxation time. You’ll get back on the boat for a visit to a fishing village where you can see the villagers at work catching cuttlefish, shrimp, and flower crabs. Test your skills in a basket boat - for hire. You will return to the harbour at sunset. Your car and driver takes you to your hotel for another night stay.

Day 10 to day 11: Nha Trang free (B)

You’ll have free days to spend as you wish.

Day 12: Nha Trang/Ho Chi Minh City departure (B, DP)

You’ll be free in the morning until your car and driver arrives to take you to Nha Trang airport for your flight to Tan Son Nhat airport in Ho Chi Minh City to connect with your international departure flight.
